Off-Season Recenters Cole in Spotlight

By Steven X

At this point in his career, J.Cole has become one of the most celebrated artists of this generation due to his prolific wordplay and vivid storytelling.  In the past two years, fans of Cole’s music have been clamoring for another project following his last album KOD (Kids on Drugs) in 2018.

The wait for a new Cole is finally over with his latest album Off-Season which dropped on May 14th and he continues to cement his legacy as one of the most consistent artists in terms of giving quality music.

Leading up to the release of Off-Season Cole had been teasing his fanbase with several mini-drops of content including a Youtube documentary titled Applying Pressure: The Off-Season Documentary.

Applying Pressure is a refreshing watch for Cole fans who have been wondering why there was a long time-lapse after dropping his last album.  In the doc, Cole talks about the comfort and luxury that comes from being a successful artist and overcoming it all to still give a great effort in creating music.

Cole’s maturation as a man and father is shown in the doc as he discusses how fatherhood made him even hungrier to leave everything out on the floor with his music.

He acknowledges that he may not be making music much longer but emphasizes that he wants to push himself to collaborate more to create a fuller legacy for himself.

Cole also dropped an explosive freestyle on the popular LA Leakers Youtube channel that was able to help Off-Season gain even more attention.

He was able to pull from his underground roots and showed off the flow and control that has made him a household name.

After an initial listen, Off-Season is another solid addition to J.Cole’s already impressive discography.  Fans of his music will appreciate his attention to detail in structuring the album to be a full listening experience rather than just being a simple playlist of unrelated songs.
